Silverfin

Compliance UK Available ★★★★☆ 4.2/5

Our Review

Silverfin is the quiet powerhouse of UK accounting compliance. While it doesn't have the brand recognition of Xero or QuickBooks, it's become the go-to platform for practices that are serious about streamlining their accounts production and tax compliance workflows.

The AI capabilities centre around automation of repetitive compliance tasks. The iXBRL tagging engine is particularly impressive — it can automatically tag financial statements for Companies House filing, a process that traditionally required specialised knowledge and significant manual effort. The accuracy rate is high enough that you're mainly reviewing and confirming rather than manually tagging.

Template standardisation is another major benefit. You can create master templates for different entity types (sole traders, limited companies, LLPs, etc.) that enforce consistent formatting, disclosures, and calculations across your entire practice. When regulations change, you update the template once and it propagates everywhere.

The platform also excels at data flow. Import a trial balance and Silverfin can automatically generate statutory accounts, tax computations, and management reports. The AI learns your mapping preferences and gets faster with each engagement.

Silverfin's main limitation is its scope — it's focused on compliance and accounts production, not general practice management. You'll still need Karbon or similar for workflow management, and Xero or QuickBooks for day-to-day bookkeeping. The custom pricing model also makes it harder to evaluate ROI upfront. Best suited for practices with 10+ staff doing significant compliance work.
