AutoEntry is the budget-friendly contender in the automated data capture space, and for many UK practices, it's all they need. Acquired by Sage in 2019, it's particularly well-integrated with Sage products, though it works perfectly well with Xero and QuickBooks too.
The standout feature is bank statement extraction — you can upload PDF bank statements and AutoEntry will extract all transactions, which is genuinely useful for clients who don't have online banking connections or who bank with institutions that don't support Open Banking.
Accuracy is comparable to Dext for standard UK documents, hovering around 95-98% depending on document quality. The AI learns from corrections and gets smarter over time. For practices that don't need the bells and whistles of Dext's workflow automation, AutoEntry delivers the core value at roughly half the price.
The credit-based pricing model is the main point of confusion. Each document upload costs a certain number of credits depending on complexity, and it's not always clear in advance how many credits a batch will consume. That said, the pricing is still very reasonable for what you get.
For smaller practices or those just starting to automate their data entry processes, AutoEntry is an excellent starting point. It's simple to set up, clients find it intuitive, and the time savings are immediate.
